Andersen Windows: Excellence Beyond Standards

Building a house isn't what it used to be. The days of just showing up with a pile of lumber and a framing hammer are making way for something tighter, smarter, and heavily scrutinized by strict energy codes. It’s an evolution. And it’s exactly what the guys at Modern Craftsman—Nick Schiffer and Tyler Grace—wanted to talk about when they called us at Motif Media.

The pitch was straightforward: a three-part documentary series for Andersen Windows. The goal wasn't to shoot a glossy, corporate commercial. It was to get into the weeds and show how a massive manufacturer actually works hand-in-hand with builders to adapt to modern building practices—specifically, home panelization and the stringent realities of modern energy codes, like wrapping a house in a full inch of exterior insulation.

We took the job immediately.

Nick and Tyler were stepping in as hosts, but they aren't your typical talking heads. They’re guys who actually know what it means to run a crew and sweat the details. Their job was to walk the line and ask the questions that real builders actually care about—tracking the chaotic journey from raw, panelized framing all the way to a finished, weather-tight home.

Episode One: The Assembly Line

For the first episode, we packed our gear and headed to Cape Cod Panel. This is where the bones of a house are born. It’s a production line for architecture, smelling of fresh sawdust and industrial efficiency.

We sat down with the CCP team and Doug Mullen of Mullen Builders, the guy ultimately responsible for turning these manufactured pieces into a home. With the cameras rolling, we walked the production line, step by step. We watched raw stacks of timber get measured, cut, and assembled.

The real story here was the foresight. Andersen Windows didn’t just drop off a truckload of glass and wish everyone luck. They were in the room during the design phase, providing the insight needed so that every header and rough opening coming off that panelization line was perfectly dialed in to accommodate their 400 Series windows. It’s a delicate dance of engineering, and we wanted the viewer to see exactly how walls are built from raw materials into fully framed units, strapped up and ready for site delivery.

The Motif Media Edge

At Motif Media, we work exclusively in the construction industry. We don't shoot weddings, and we don't shoot music videos. We shoot job sites.

Because we live in this world, we speak the language. We know the rhythm of a factory floor. We know exactly when to push in tight on a framing nailer, and when to pull back to capture the sheer scale of a wall being hoisted onto a flatbed. We know what information the audience—the tradesmen, the builders, the architects—actually needs to see to respect the process, while simultaneously delivering exactly what the client needs to tell their story.

It’s about capturing the truth of the craft. And with Andersen Windows and the Modern Craftsman crew, the craft is in very good hands.
